Everyone (mostly) loves when the lupine are in bloom. They cover roadsides and hillsides in royal colors for a couple of weeks in June, signifying that summer is actually here. But I always find them incredibly difficult to photograph successfully. So a few things I'm learning. First, catch them in transition. The tonal gradation as they fully bloom is interesting. Second, isolate them. The fields full of them are cool, but I prefer them pulled away from the mass. And third, get the leaves! The leaves form a fascinating contrast to the long and lanky blooms, laid out flat, broad and star-shapped as they are. They are a fascinating subject all by themselves. These were taken alongside the Duluth Vineyard church about a week a go.

Mazatlán 2020

From our January 2020 mission trip to Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico. I wish I had time to order these better, by day or church or project, and better tell some of the cool stories associated with them. Hopefully the images themselves will help tell the stories.
